Devotees believe that fasting on this particular day will bring liberation to their ancestors. They also believe that god will forgive their sins if they fast on this day.Β
King Indrasen was a good and fair king of Mahishmati, according to the Indira Ekadashi Vrat Katha. He received a message from his late father one day when Sage Narada visited him. The sage claimed that the king’s father’s soul had not achieved moksha and was trapped in Yama Loka as a result of previous sins.
To ensure that he is keeping the Indira Ekadashi fast with utmost dedication, Narada counseled King Indrasen. Also, he asked the King to worship lord vishnu deeply. His father’s soul was liberated from the Yama Loga because of his devoted fasting.
This famous story also leads devotees to believe that fasting on this day can help atone for their sins. This is why they are determined to fast on this auspicious day.Β

Indira Ekadashi
ποΈ Indira Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Varanasi, there lived a pious and devoted man named Ramesh. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and always observed fasts and performed rituals with utmost dedication.
One year, as the month of Ashadha approached, Ramesh learned about the significance of Indira Ekadashi. He was told that observing a fast on this day would absolve all sins and grant immense blessings from Lord Vishnu. Excited by the prospect of receiving divine grace, Ramesh decided to observe the fast with unwavering devotion.
On the day of Indira Ekadashi, Ramesh woke up before sunrise, took a holy bath, and began his fast. Throughout the day, he spent his time chanting prayers and reading scriptures dedicated to Lord Vishnu. He refrained from consuming any food or water, and his mind remained focused on the divine.
As the day turned into night, Ramesh continued his prayers with utmost sincerity. He offered flowers, incense, and fruits to a small idol of Lord Vishnu in his home, seeking his blessings and forgiveness for any shortcomings. His devotion and dedication were unwavering, and he prayed for the well-being of his family and loved ones.
The next day, as Ramesh broke his fast, he felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over him. He knew that his prayers had been heard, and he had received the grace of Lord Vishnu. From that day onwards, Ramesh’s life was filled with prosperity, happiness, and spiritual fulfillment. His devotion to Lord Vishnu only deepened, and he continued to observe Indira Ekadashi with the same fervor every year.
The significance of Indira Ekadashi and the power of fasting and prayer were evident in Ramesh’s life, inspiring others in the kingdom to follow in his footsteps. And as the years passed, the tradition of observing this auspicious day grew stronger, spreading love, devotion, and blessings to all who observed it with a pure heart.
May the story of Ramesh and the blessings of Lord Vishnu inspire us to observe Indira Ekadashi with unwavering devotion and faith, and may we all be blessed with divine grace and spiritual fulfillment. Jai Shri Krishna!
