 Putrada Ekadashi is so famous among followers of the Hindu religion.  Putrada means “giver of sons”. It is also called Pavitropana or Pavitra Ekadashi. The name clearly shows how important it is to married couples who want a child, especially a son.

Devotees of lord Vishnu show their depth of devotion on this day. Couples who want sons will recite mantras and engage in fasting in a very disciplined manner. It is believed that Lord Vishnu gives his ears to the prayers that have deep meaning.

According to the Bhavishya Purana, King Mahijit and his queen were blessed with a son after doing this vrat under Sage Lomesh’s direction.

Once upon a time, in the holy land of India, there lived a devout couple named Ramesh and Sunita. Despite their deep love for each other, they were longing for a child to complete their family. They had visited numerous temples, prayed to various deities, and sought the blessings of numerous saints, but their prayers remained unanswered.

One day, a wise sage visited their village and advised them to observe the Putrada Ekadashi Vrat, which falls on the Ekadashi of the bright fortnight of the month of Magha. The sage explained that observing this Vrat with sincerity and devotion would fulfill their deepest desire of having a child.

Ramesh and Sunita were overjoyed to receive this divine guidance and immediately decided to observe the Vrat. They woke up before sunrise, took a holy bath, and worshiped Lord Vishnu with flowers, incense, and sacred chants. They observed a strict fast throughout the day, abstaining from food and water.

Throughout the day, they engaged in prayers, meditation, and reading of sacred scriptures. They also performed acts of charity and helped the needy, as advised by the sage. As the day turned into night, they continued their prayers with unwavering devotion.

Their sincere prayers and unwavering faith touched the heart of Lord Vishnu, and he appeared before them in all his divine glory. He blessed them with a boon, promising that they would be blessed with a beautiful and healthy child. Overwhelmed with joy, Ramesh and Sunita thanked the Lord for his divine grace and blessings.

True to the Lord’s words, within a year, Sunita gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, who brought immense joy and happiness into their lives. From that day onwards, Ramesh and Sunita observed the Putrada Ekadashi Vrat with great devotion and gratitude, to thank the Lord for fulfilling their deepest desire.

On this auspicious day of Putrada Ekadashi in the year 2025, may we all remember the story of Ramesh and Sunita and observe this Vrat with unwavering faith and devotion. 🪔 Putrada Ekadashi Puja Vidhi

Putrada Ekadashi is a sacred day dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed to seek his blessings for a child. Here is a step-by-step Puja Vidhi for Putrada Ekadashi in 2025:

1. Begin the day by waking up early and taking a bath to purify yourself.

2. Cleanse the puja area and place a picture or idol of Lord Vishnu. You can also place a Kalash with water and mango leaves on the puja altar.
