Devshayani (Shayani) Ekadashi
Devshayani Ekadashi is one of the famous Hindu fasting occasions. You can also call it Shayani or Ashadhi Ekadashi. It usually falls on the 11th day of the bright half of the Ashadha month, which is June to July. According to Hindu belief, Lord Vishnu falls into a deep cosmic sleep known as Yoga Nidra in the ocean of Milk. Chaturmas is what people call his four-month rest time.
It is believed that this period will cleanse the sins he has committed so far and will bring blessings to him.ย A renowned legend describes how well King Mandhata solved a long drought in his kingdom by following a proper fast with sheer dedication.
During Chaturmas, a lot of individuals will focus on the following
- Prayer
- Devotion
- Self control
Until lord Vishnu wakes up on Prabodhini Ekadashi in the month of Katik, people wonโt consider auspicious events like weddings.
People will observe Devshayani Ekadashi by taking a holy bath in the early morning. During that time, people will worship lord vishnu and offer him the following
- Yellow Flowers
- Fruits
- Tulsi Leaves
Many people will undergo fasting, and a few will go without food or water. On the other hand, few people will have light sattvic meals. This is where a religious person can improve their discipline.
