Pitru Paksha lasts for 15 days, in which tribute is paid to the ancestors by offering food and offerings. This year Pitru Paksha is going to start from 7th September. The last day of Pitru Paksha i.e. Sarva Pitru Amavasya (Sarva Pitru Amavasya 2025) is considered a special day to get the blessings of ancestors. The Amavasya Tithi of Ashwin month will begin on 21 September 2025 at 12:16 PM and end on 22 September 2025 at 1:23 AM. Hence, Sarva Pitru Amavasya will be observed on Sunday, 21 September 2025.

- Important Rituals on Sarva Pitru Amavasya
Wake up early and take a holy bath in a sacred river. If not possible, mix Gangajal in water and bathe at home.
- Perform Tarpan and Pinddaan rituals for ancestors to express gratitude and seek blessings.
- Offer food to cows, dogs, crows, gods, and ants as part of the Shraddha rituals.
- Feed Brahmins and donate essentials according to your capacity, as charity is considered highly auspicious on this day.
Peepal Tree Remedies on Pitru Amavasya
On Sarva Pitru Amavasya, the Peepal tree holds special significance as it is believed to be the abode of ancestors.
- Perform seven parikramas (circumambulations) around the Peepal tree.
- Light a mustard oil lamp with black sesame seeds under the tree.
- Planting a Peepal tree near a temple on this day is also believed to bring peace and prosperity.
